Shades Creek is 55.8 miles long and runs through five cities that make up the metro area of Birmingham, Alabama. Those cities are: Irondale, Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Homewood, Hoover, and Bessemer, all in Jefferson County. Shades Creek enters the Cahaba River at the Bibb/Shelby County line.
