The 2021 Shades Creek Tree planting project took place Saturday, Nov. 13 and was led by Friends of Shades Creek Executive Director and Forester/Arborist Henry Hughes. Nearly 100 people participated Saturday morning, planting 300 seedlings in an area between Shades Creek and the Shades Creek Greenway trail. Groups participating in the tree planting included: Friends of Shades Creek, Homewood Environmental Commission, Samford University, Homewood High School Environmental Club, Little Garden Club and other volunteers. Tree species planted included: Post Oak, White Oak, Water Oak, Tupelo, Water Hickory, Sycamore, Boxelder, Black Walnut, Hornbeam, Maple, and more. Thank you to all that gave up time on Saturday to plant trees that will help this area along Shades Creek.
