Shades Creek, flowing through time

A book highlighting Shades Creek and our area with stories about Birmingham, Mountain Brook, Irondale, Homewood, Hoover, Bessemer and stretches of Jefferson, Bibb and Shelby counties where Shades Creek and its tributaries touch. In “Shades Creek, flowing through time,” you will learn history about early explorers, Native Americans, Civil War Ironmaking, planners Warren Manning and the Omstead Brothers, and about native plants and wildlife. Prepare to be moved and educated! Shades Creek only asks us for our attention and appreciation. And the chance to flow through time to future generations.

Books have 216 pages with 365 photographs, maps and drawings to layer the narrative with accompanying visuals. The Birmingham Historical Society consider “this one of their most important publications to date,” says Marjorie White, Birmingham Historical Society, executive director, “It continues our mission to fully explore the resources—natural and man-made—that form the city and region we represent and cherish.”
